Upland Landscape Project:

San Antonio Heights Wild Renewal

This project came to us when the homeowner happened to see our other featured Upland project, Turf Removal: Back to Nature. She loved how the landscape evoked a wild and natural setting, and wanted Clements Landscape and Pool Construction to add that feel to her home in north Upland’s San Antonio Heights neighborhood. The home was in the process of an extensive renovation that included the new front courtyard which we kept in mind while planning out the new silver quartzite flagstone walkways from the street and to the driveway. Tons of topsoil were brought in to create the berms in the main area and the sinuous low mounds in the parkway strips. After being roughly placed with a skid steer tractor, the topsoil was given a final finish with shovels and rakes into sculpted shapes that curve around and define the space. A huge truckload of hand selected boulders were delivered and carefully placed to mimic a natural setting. Different sizes of river rock were placed on the berms to accentuate their shapes and heights, and the rest of the landscape was covered with soft grey colored pea gravel. To complete the theme of muted greys, Silver Quartzite flagstone was used in the walkway that guides visitors through the garden to the front door.

The palette of trees and plants was selected to enhance the wild and natural look of the landscape while weaving in color and movement throughout the year.
