Rancho Cucamonga Landscaping:

Turf Removal Turn-Around

These clients in the Etiwanda neighborhood of Rancho Cucamonga came to us with the goal of removing over 2,500 square feet of Bermuda grass from their front yard and installing a natural landscape with low maintenance plants and trees. They also asked for a seating area near the front door. We came up with a landscape design that incorporated a dry creek, lots of locally sourced boulders and different sizes of river rock and gravel. After the lawn removal, we took out the outdated columns and wavy colored concrete walkway. We regraded the yard, sculpting the dirt to create a dry creek and berms. Personally selected large boulders were carefully set in place to create a wild and natural landscape.

The clients requested a low maintenance landscape, so the plant palette includes cacti and succulents along with some California native plants and other favorite varities that have proven hardy and able to withstand the frequesnt high winds in the area.

The extra wide exposed concrete walkway was detailed with silver quartzite flagstone bands, and an “L” shaped bench defines the new courtyard area. The bench has a natural color poured concrete seat, river rock back and incorporated LED lighting. A water fountain under the dining room window creates a focal point for the courtyard. A river rock wall was added to create a nook for delivery drivers to safely leave packages.

Landscaping included the bronzy Australian willow trees along the walkway which were placed in raised black metal squares that were filled with a layer of pea gravel for extra contrast against mellow gold decomposed granite.

A custom mailbox incorporates backlit LED address numbers, river rock, smooth stucco and a sleek contempory drop box.

Low voltage landscape lighting includes path lighting, uplights for trees and a spot light hidden in the eave to light up the water fountain.
