Fontana Landscaping:
Coyote Canyon Turf Removal and California Native Garden

The clients previously worked with Clements Landscape and Pool Construction to renovate their backyard, and now decided it was time to update their front yard as well. In the sought-after, wind-swept Coyote Canyon neighborhood of Fontana—where lush, water-hungry lawns are the norm—they envisioned a dramatic change by removing all turf and planting exclusively California native species (with the exception of the multi-trunk Palo Verde “Desert Museum”). The pallette of native california plants was chosen for their resilience to strong winds and their ability to attract local pollinators.

To create a welcoming courtyard, the porch railing was removed and replaced with new concrete and an “L” shaped seating wall topped with smooth concrete. A staggered walkway was installed to guide visitors to the front entrance. For visual interest and balance, mocha brown decorative rock was paired with gold decomposed granite, separated by a concrete band to add structure.

The clients selected distinctive pottery planted with Russelia equisetiformis to accent the walkway, texture and color to the overall design.

Low voltage lighting includes uplights on the Palo Verde tree and path lighting to add a glow at night.
