Claremont Landscape Construction:

Outdoor Living Area

This back yard in north Claremont had a lot of potential with a view of the mountains and a large mid century styled pool. We came up with a landscape design that pushed back an awkward slope to create space for a built in BBQ island. We added a redwood screen along the back of the island to further screen the pool equipment. Other landscaping included replacing the worn out patio slab with a new concrete patio with lines scored to draw sightlines to edges, making the space seem more expansive. We love the way the crisp edges work throughout the landscape, and how the space seems so much more inviting.

The BBQ island features a geometric patterned tile that is an absolute knock out! The homeowner made a bold choice, and it really makes the whole project come alive. The muted grey poured in place concrete countertop and custom color dark grey Santa Barbara finish stucco provide the perfect foil. The redwood slat screen is just enough of a barrier to block the view of the pool equipment without feeling like a solid wall.

The tile installation highlights Harold’s craftsmanship– the layout is absolutely perfect! Not one tile had to be cut, all full width from front to back and side to side. The apron, of course, is a half row by design.

The corner of yard had potential with an existing river rock wall and a view of the mountains. We added landscaping including a bench with a poured in place concrete seat, redwood slats with custom brackets to match the BBQ island screen and dark grey Santa Barbara stucco finish. An inviting pre fabricated fire pit and soft grey pea gravel complete the area. Landscape lighting brings a glow to the specimen tree in a large, contempory planter and more uplights define te hedges and garden borders in the evenings. Fresh drought tolerant dwarf Bermuda turf with a concrete border connects the area to the main patio and provides play space for the family dogs.
